KareLink Yesterday
Originally based on the principles used for industrial controls, KareLink began over 20 years ago on an IBM AT computer. The idea was to enable patients and caregivers the ability to communicate in the event of an emergency. Custom built pull cord panels were wired up in every bathroom of a facility. When pulled, the sophisticated software would notify on screen where the call was coming from, allowing the nurses station to recognize and respond to the emergency.
Over time, additional features were added, allowing residents to access multiple pull cords in their rooms. Smoke alarms would report alarms to the system, shorting response times to fire emergencies. The computer would monitor all devices on the system, ensuring that they are operating properly. Dot matrix printers were added to print daily reports of activity, and pagers were added for staff to wear. Emergency messages would be sent automatically to the pagers. KareLink began as the industry leader for nurse and emergency call technology, and stayed years ahead of the competition.
KareLink Today
Today, the KareLink emergency call system is lightyears beyond it's initial design. 2 GHz processors have replaced the 4 MHz AT computers. Windows has replaced DOS. Handheld radios have replaced pagers. USB drives have replaced dot matrix printers. Partial and completely wireless systems are being installed with great success, eliminating the need for in-wall low voltage wiring. Still, while there have been amazing leaps forward on the hardware side, the software remains as solid as ever, using the same basic principles from when it was adapted from industrial controls.
Remaining rooted in a proven and dependable technology while adding in new features and options has allowed KareLink to stay ahead of the competition. Residents can "check-in" every day with the push of a button. Doors are monitored and activated with magnetic locks. Wireless locators can identify where a person is when they have an emergency outside of their residence. KareLink is a trusted brand.
KareLink Tomorrow
As computer technology continues to expand, so do the features and benefits of KareLink systems. Further wireless integration is expected. Our staff remains focused on adding the things that our customers demand and request.
